Visual artist and light designer
Santiago Rodríguez Tricot is an interdisciplinary artist and light designer, born in Uruguay and based in Portugal. Across expanded performance, spatial design, and site-specific installation, his practice explores the physical, fictional, and performative relationships between human and non-human bodies, their environments, and narratives, using them as critical tools for rethinking how we inhabit a world in constant transformation. |

| FATA MORGANA |
Installation - Performance Totatoga - Artist in Residence International Exchange, Busan, South Korea 2026 Fata Morgana shifts an ongoing investigation into sensory destabilization toward a new material and conceptual focus: water. Taking its title from the mythological shape-shifting entity whose name translates to "born of the sea," the project borrows the Fata Morgana—a complex optical mirage caused by thermal inversion—as its conceptual framework. In this atmospheric event, distant objects like ships or islands distort into unrecognizable forms, exposing the inherent unreliability of sight. The research examines the friction between what is physically present, what is obscured, what the eye constructs, and what the imagination evokes and projects, framing perception as an exercise suspended between past and future. Here, seas and rivers are approached not as landscapes, but as charged elements bound to migration, transit, promises, and extinction. Within this ecology of constant movement, the horizon ceases to be a passive distant line, emerging instead as a physical and political boundary. |
| HOLDING LISTENING |
Soundwalk Arca Dias Abertos, OSSO, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal 2026 Holding Listening is a site-specific research project and collective soundwalk developed within the framework of [finisˈtɛrra] — Practices and Theories for the End of the World. Continuing an exploration of gestures and economies of attention, this soundwalk traces a path through the landscapes of São Gregório, a small village in Portugal, as an exercise in expanded listening. Between walking and listening, the project invites participants to make space for their surroundings, the invisible, and the inaudible, calling upon not only hearing but also seeing, contemplating, moving, and imagining. Through site-specific field recordings and a spoken text delivered directly into participants' phones, the work sets out to recover the acoustic memory of a river that once ran through the valley millions of years ago and has since vanished entirely from sight. If a landscape disappears from view over the course of geological time, does it disappear from memory as well, or does it persist? How do you bring back a river to a river? |
| RESONATING ISLANDS |
| Performance and Listening Session Arquipélago – Contemporary Art Center, Azores, Portugal 2023 RESONATING ISLANDS is the first experiment of Resonating Islands_A Sonorous Archipelago, an artistic research project by Sara Vieira Marques and Santiago Rodríguez Tricot about the material and ecological experience of the human body when confronted with its natural and phenomenological environment. Developed over a three-month residency in the Azores Islands, the research was conducted in collaboration with IVAR (Instituto de Investigação em Vulcanologia e Avaliação de Riscos) and the University of the Azores. This project took the form of a performance and listening session, where light and sound were generated in real time by live seismic data monitoring the region — in the Azores, constant seismic activity is, potentially, the origin of a new island still being formed. The research engaged with an archipelago that is still becoming, still changing its own environment, diluting boundaries between performing and visual arts: topographies, geographies, and meteorologies emerge where the human body is neither the place nor the central narrative — mountains, which are islands, which are volcanoes, which are the center of the earth, which are the beginning.

| OUROBOROS |
| Light and Sound Installation - Performance mala voadora, Porto, Portugal 2024 Ouroboros is a light installation developed in dialogue with Undoing Listening, a performance that explores the physical and conceptual dimensions of listening and seeing, approaching them as technologies for “futuring.” This inquiry takes the form of an installation built around the idea of total visibility and seeing. Intense white light fills the space, eliminating shadows and flattening distinctions between colour and form. What appears as a condition of complete visibility also evokes how illumination can operate as an instrument of surveillance, control and suggestion. As a performative action, the installation centres on the live assembly and disassembly of a speaker. Through a meticulous doing and undoing, this mechanical process operates as a transfer between the visual object and the acoustic space. |
| INSTRUCTION Nº1 |
LED signs, looped programmes text, standalone mode CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva, Porto, Portugal 2023 Through repetition, Instruction nº1 extends this inquiry into the relationship between seeing and listening. The installation consists of an LED sign operating continuously in standalone mode, looping a single announcement. Commonly used to communicate clear and direct messages, the element sign becomes a device of reiteration, shifting the message from functional information into a persistent visual presence. |
| HORMIGONERA |
Installation - Performance GEN - Center for Arts and Science, Montevideo, Uruguay 2017 HORMIGONERA is a collaborative creative practice that takes the stage’s physical infrastructure and its elements as its object of study. The project investigates how scenic action can emerge from the relationships between space, matter, light, and sound, rather than being organised primarily by the human figure. It proposes a more ecological approach, understanding these elements as interdependent agents. Taking the concrete mixer as its conceptual framework—a mechanism of constant friction, rotation, and structural transformation—the practice approaches these elements as active dramaturgical agents. Through contact, friction and interaction, their material properties and behaviours become sources of performative action. This process proposes a collaborative approach to dramaturgy in which the environment is not simply a container for action, but an active condition in its emergence. |
