《바닷물로 밥을 짓는 법》은 또따또가와 청문당의 교류를 통해 기획된 연계 전시이다. 서로 다른 도시적 맥락에 위치한 두 레지던시는 전시를 통해 각 지역 작가들의 현재 상황과 결과물들을 공유하고자 한다. 전시는 한국문화에서 밥이 단순한 음식이 아닌 관계의 매개체라는 것에서 시작한다. 그렇기에  밥을 짓는 행위는 생존기술이면서 동시에 마음을 담아내는 하나의 의식에 가깝다.  

《바닷물로 밥을 짓는 법》은 이러한 ‘밥 짓기’를 작업의 은유로 확장한 전시이다. 부산항 인근의 환경에서 비롯된 ‘바닷물’이라는 비일상적 재료는 지역적 맥락과 실험성을 상징하며, 환경과 경험을 재료 삼아 새로운 작업을 시도하는 작가들의 태도를 드러낸다.

부산에서 시작해 대구로 이어지는 전시는 과정에 주목하며, 작업의 축적과 확장을 단계적으로 보여준다. 부산 전시에서는 참여작가들의 현재 작업을 만나볼 수 있고, 이를 기반으로 대구에서  시도의 결과물을 선보일 것이다. 작가들이 어떤 조건 속에서 무엇을 재료로 삼아 작업과 삶을 지어가는지 지켜봐주길 바란다.

A Method for Cooking Rice with Seawater is a collaborative exhibition developed through an exchange between Totatoga and Cheongmundang. Situated in different urban contexts, the two residencies share the current conditions and artistic outcomes of their participating artists.

The exhibition begins with the idea that, in Korean culture, rice is not merely food but a medium of relationships. Cooking rice is thus both a survival skill and a ritual imbued with care. This exhibition expands “cooking rice” into a metaphor for artistic practice. The use of “seawater,” drawn from the environment near Busan Port, symbolizes regional context and experimentation, reflecting the artists’ approaches to creating work from their surroundings and experiences.

Extending from Busan to Daegu, the exhibition focuses on process, presenting the accumulation and expansion of practice. The Busan presentation introduces the artists’ current works, which lead to new attempts and outcomes in Daegu. The audience is invited to observe how artists shape their work and lives through given conditions and chosen materials.

At Space Sail, a special section presents works by Jiyun Bae, Haeun Jo, Minkyung Choi, and a collaboration between Zeongmin Kim and Gorgeous Gorgeous, highlighting the exchanges and synergies formed within the residency.
